Most systems do not fail. They drift. A plugin stops being updated, a page gets slower every quarter, a report that used to take ten minutes now takes an afternoon, and none of it is ever urgent enough to become a project.

A block of hours exists for exactly that work. It is prepaid so the time is genuinely reserved, and bounded to 90 days so it does not turn into an open retainer that neither of us reviews.

How the hours are counted

Time is logged against the change it went on, not billed as a monthly lump. At the end of a block you can see what you bought. The first priorities are usually measurable: load times, monitoring gaps, recurring manual work, or a feature already waiting in the backlog.

Before you ask

Can you take on a system you did not build?

Yes, after a review. I need to read it first and tell you honestly what condition it is in. Taking on a codebase sight unseen helps neither of us.

What happens to hours I do not use?

They expire with the block. The point of a fixed block is that the time is reserved for you, which only works if it has an end.

Is this a maintenance contract?

Not quite. Maintenance keeps a system standing still. This is for moving it forward: the features, the performance work and the cleanups that never get their own project.

What sort of work does a block usually go on?

Page speed and Core Web Vitals, on-page SEO, a feature that was cut from the original scope, replacing a plugin that has become a liability, or automating a report someone still assembles by hand.

What if something breaks?

If I built it, fixing it does not come out of your hours. If I inherited it, we agree at review time which parts I am standing behind.
